                                                       Gaspare Buonomano

 

         Gaspare was born in 1984 in Cosenza, Italy. He began his musical training at the age of seven with his father, who continued as his teacher at Cosenza’s ‘S. Giaocomantonio’ Conservatory. After his Diploma – which he obtained with distinction – Gaspare Vittorio Buonomano went to the La Scala Academy in Milan where he performed in Donizetti’s Opera ’Ugo, Conte di Parigi.  

        Gaspare  has been performing since he was very young, giving his debut as soloist at the age of 12 with the ‘Philharmonia Mediterranea Orchestra’ at the A. Rendano Theatre in Cosenza as well as with the ‘Orchestra European Jeunesse’. Rave reviews followed.

       Gaspare  has taken part in numerous masterclasses with Gervase de Peyer and Karl Leister as well as international courses at the Accademiua Chigiana in Siena with Anthony Pay, where he won several awards and two grants.

      He has won numerous first prizes in national and international competitions in Cremona, Sanremo, Imperia, Agropoli, Reggio Calabria, Matera, Bologna, Milan, Forli and Rome, among others. In July 2004, he won five first prizes in one month alone: Città di Bojano, Città di Massafra, Premio Rovere d'Oro, Lions European in Salzburg and Città di Morcone. At auditions for principal clarinet with the Munich Philharmonic, the DSO Berlin and the Berlin Philharmonic – while still a student – he was selected for the final round.

 

          Gaspare has given many concerts and recitals as soloist and chamber musician in Italy, Austria, Germany, Russia, and China, Japan and South America. He has guested with well-known concert societies, for example the Festival dell’Aurora (Crotone), Teatro Donizetti (Bergamot), La Scala (Milan), Salzburg Schloss Concerts and Festung Concerts, Amici della Musica (Spoleto), Fudan University (Shanghai), Conservatory of Beijing, Rheingau Music Festival, Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. He is also a regular guest soloist with the DSO Berlin, the RSO Berlin, The Frankfurt Opera, Hessischer Rundfunk (Hessian Broadcasting Corporation), RSO Stuttgart, Cappella Andrea Barca and many more.

           He is co-founder of “alesiEnsemble” and has made chamber music and symphonic CD recordings with the Scharoun Ensemble Berlin and the NDR Symphony Orchestra. As principal clarinet with the “Philharmonia Mediterranea Orchestra” Gaspare Vittorio Buonomano toured extensively. Buonomano has performed under conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Zubin Mehta, Trevor Pinnock, Mariss Jansons, Roberto Zarpellon, Christoph von Dohnányi, Peter Maag, Bernhard Haitink, Simon Rattle, Hubert Soudant, Pierre Boulez, Seiji Ozawa, Gustavo Dudamel, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Paavo Järvi, Christoph Eschenbach, Christian Thielemann, Tugan Sokhiev and Thomas Hengelbrock and with soloists such as und Jörg Demus, Michael Hell, Katia Ricciarelli, Maurizio Pollini, Salvatore Accardo, Janine Jansen, Klaus Thunemann, Alexander Lonquich, Luz Leskowitz, Thomas Christian, Murray Perahia, Clemens Hagen, Michael Barenboim and András Schiff.

         Buonomano has been principal clarinettist with the NDR Symphony Orchestra in Hamburg since 2011 as well as teacher at the Hamburg Conservatory. He is frequently invited to offer workshops and masterclasses for the County Youth Orchestra and the Young Symphony Orchestra in Hamburg. In addition, he has served several times on the jury of the Young Musician Competitions in Hamburg. He has been exploring the predecessors of the modern clarinet since 2013 and since then has performed regularly on period instruments with Concerto Brandenburg Berlin. 

      In 2006, Gaspare Vittorio Buonomano completed his performance diploma in clarinet under Professor Alois Brandhofer with distinction, thereby earning the title Magister Artium. Between 2007 and 2009 he held a scholarship with the Berlin Philharmonic and acted as principal soloist with the Stuttgart Opera during the 2009/10 season.
